Monte lberia Frog

Studies have shown that the Mount Iberia frog holds the Guinness World Record for being the smallest frog. Despite its diminutive body measuring only "10 millimetres" in length, this tiny amphibian compensates for its size by possessing a potent dose of poison.

  • The Monte Iberia dwarf frog is exclusively found in two isolated populations within the eastern province of Cuba, at elevations below 600 meters above sea level.

  • The initial population inhabits the Monte Iberia tableland where the frog was first identified.

  • The second population, smaller in size, encompasses less than 100 square kilometres and is sparsely populated.

  • This population is situated near Nibujón at sea level.

  • These frogs inhabit regions of dense rainforest with poorly drained soil, relying on high humidity levels for their survival.

  • Despite its small stature, the Monte Iberia frog demonstrates behaviour comparable to that of larger frogs. It actively preys on and consumes a variety of invertebrates, such as insects, moths, and spiders.
